Tank Repair & Maintenance

Shop-Built And Field-Erected Steel Tank Repair

T BAILEY, INC.’s tank repair division is ready to put over 25 years of experience to work for you by ensuring that your shop-built or field-erected tanks are up to code.

Our trained professionals pride themselves on being able to quickly repair any issue, at any location. It doesn’t matter if your tank is on poor soil, a complex foundation, at a tight site, or in a remote location — our expert crews will get the repairs done and have your tank back in service in record time.

Before working with our team, it is encouraged that you have an independent inspection firm give your tank a comprehensive examination. Depending on the kind of tank you have, the examination crew may include NACE Level II/III, API 653, and AWWA D100 inspectors. After the inspection, you will be given a detailed report with the findings and it is this report that T BAILEY, INC.’s personnel will use when recommending and planning repairs for your tank.

Shop-Built or Field-Erected Water Tank Repair

Safety regulations and AWWA standards have changed a lot over the last several years, which means that a lot of older water tanks are due for maintenance and repair work in order to be brought up to code. The water tank repair work T BAILEY, INC. does includes:

Seismic Upgrades

Our experienced professionals will make sure that your shop-built and field-erected water tanks meet current AWWA D100 seismic standards. This could entail:

  • Foundation repairs or modifications
  • Adding additional anchoring systems
  • Tank shell & structure repair
  • Flex joint repair at the foundation
  • Structural modifications to elevated tanks

Corrosion Repair & Prevention

It was common practice to construct steel water tanks without seal welding the interior roof plate seams and structural to plate laps above the water line. While it may be true that seal welds aren’t required for structural strength, what we now know is that forgoing these welds results in rust bleeding, which leads to corrosion inside the tank.

Our water tank repair division can seal weld all un-welded seams and laps above the waterline — preventing corrosion and securing your tank’s integrity for years to come.

Other corrosion repairs could include:

  • Filling holes with welds
  • Installing tank bottom patches
  • Replacing tank’s entire floor

Updating Safety Features

It may be that some of the safety elements on your shop-built or field-erected tank need to be updated to reflect current requirements. This may include modifying or replacing some of the following features:

  • Safety climb systems
  • Tie-off systems
  • Ladders
  • Platforms
  • Stair treads
  • Handrails

API 620 and 650 Oil, Fuel, and Chemical Tank Repair and Maintenance

After a thorough examination by your independent API 653 inspector, T BAILEY, INC.’s team will ensure that your shop-built or field erected oil tanks are repaired and brought up to API 620 or API 650 tank requirements.

The oil and chemical tank repair work that we do includes:

General Tank Repair And Maintenance

We at T BAILEY, INC. understand that if a tank isn’t in service then it equals a loss of income for your business, so if your tank is in need of repairs or upgrades our trained professionals will make sure to have your tank back in service as quickly as possible.

Our general tank maintenance includes:

  • Floating roof repair or replacement
  • Fixed-roof repair or replacement
  • Buckled shell repairs or replacement
  • In-service tank repairs
  • Updating fire fighting foam systems
  • Updating leak detection systems

Seismic Upgrades

Your API 653 inspector will assess whether or not your shop-built or field-erected tank needs to be upgraded to meet current seismic codes. T BAILEY INC.’s repair crews will use the API 653 inspection report to determine what seismic upgrades need to be made. These upgrades could include:

  • Adding shell stiffeners to tank
  • Foundation repairs or modifications
  • Adding or modifying anchor systems

Corrosion Repair

One cause of corrosion inside liquid-storing tanks is electrolysis — this can corrode a tank’s floor from the bottom up. If your independent ASNT Level II Certified UT inspector has detected a corrosion issue, our crews will patch or replace the damaged floor plates.

Other corrosion repairs might include:

  • Filling holes with welds
  • Installing tank bottom patches
  • Replacing tank’s entire floor

Safety Feature Modification

Safety codes have improved a lot in the last several years. If you have an older tank, then odds are that our tank repair crews will need to upgrade some of the following elements:

  • Safety climbs systems
  • Tie-off anchoring systems
  • Ladders
  • Platforms
  • Cat-walks
  • Stair treads
  • Handrails

ASME Pressure Vessel Repair or Modifications

Due to the volatile and dangerous nature of shop-built pressure vessels, the testing requirements are strict and extensive. If repairs or modifications are needed we can perform this work.

Pressure Vessel Repair

The repair or modification work T BAILEY, INC. does might include:

  • Adding or changing nozzles
  • Adding or changing supports or attachments
  • Fitting replacements or additions
