Gas Steel Tank Capabilities

Here at T BAILEY INC., we are able to build just about any type of oil and gas tank there is. We take pride in being able to customize our fabrication process to meet the needs of our clients. Our flexibility is one of our greatest capabilities because it enables us to shop build complete or shop fabricate and field-erect on your specific project site.

Tank Types & Sizes:

We build a wide variety of storage tanks. This includes pressurized steel vessels for products like propane and liquid natural gas, as well as low-pressure tanks for products like oil, diesel, and fuel oil.

Smaller tanks are built in our shop and then delivered to the job site via truck, barge or rail. These shop-built tanks can be any size up to 25 feet wide by 20 feet tall. Any tank over these dimensions most likely will be assembled on site.

When it comes to field-erected tanks, the skies the limit on the size of tank we can build. Our field-erected tank range in diameters of 25 feet to well over 250 feet with heights of 16 to over 140 feet all to your exact requirements.

Materials Used:

Everything we build is fabricated from carbon or stainless steel, or many other types of materials. The grade of steel depends on the unique needs of the tank and the product that will be stored in it.

Working Position:

Pressure vessels and smaller shop-built tanks can be either vertical or horizontal, while all the tanks we field-erect are typically vertical and round ones.

Head Assembly & Geometry:

We provide a variety of heads, including flanged only, flanged & dished, flared, hemispherical, or semi-elliptical. Heads can be fabricated with welded or bolted end closure depending on your specific needs.

Tanks Codes:

A fabricator is only as good as their qualifications — which is why we hold ourselves to the highest standards of steel fabrication certifications. Here at T BAILEY INC., our roster includes design and fabrication to:

  • ASME Section VIII – Div 1
  • API 650
  • API 620
  • API 653
  • UL 142
  • STI F921
  • STI F941
  • UL 2085
  • FM
  • ULC
  • National Board “R”

Site Preparation:

T BAILEY INC. is a start-to-finish contractor/fabricator/erector. Beginning with design and ending with testing, we are able to complete every stage of the fabrication, erection, and construction process.

We can execute site preparation, including: earthwork preparation, underground utility installation, and the construction of all types of foundations including gravel, sand, and concrete.

Containment:

Industry standards mandate that oil and gas tanks must have a secondary containment. Most sites comply with this rule by building a concrete or earthen dike around their tank farm including a plastic membrane liner.

But if your job site doesn’t have room for a dike, then T BAILEY INC. can help you stay compliant by fabricating double wall tanks. Our double-walled oil and gas tanks are completely sealed, with not only double walls, but a double bottom as well.

Our Engineering And Design Process

One of the advantages of partnering with T BAILEY INC. for oil and gas tank fabrication is that we have the ability to perform every step of the tank creation process in-house.

Our industry-leading fabrication process begins with design and detail drawings.

While clients occasionally come to us with an already-designed tank, the vast majority of our customers only know the size of the tank they need and rely on us to do all the calculations and detailing work.

Once the client supplies us with the necessary data (size of tank, type of product to be stored, location requirements, etc), then our design division gets to work. We work with some of the best engineers in the country to help us design and build our tanks. They will ensure that every part of your tank, from shell thickness to heat coils, is optimized to withstand the rigors of its job.

Once performance and strength calculations are done, we’ll then translate all this data into detail CAD fabrication/erection drawings for the client to approve.

As soon as the client approves everything, we send it off to the fabrication team.

Industry-Leading Fabrication And Construction

Here at T BAILEY INC., we have invested countless years into the optimization of our fabrication process. Our professionals have been working in this industry for decades, often carrying on a multi-generational family tradition of tank fabrication. This deep knowledge has enabled our company to invent unique procedures and welding processes that set us apart from other steel fabricators.

From cutting to rolling, welding to testing — every stage in a tank’s creation is completed using advanced welding and assembly methods that have been passed down and refined over multiple generations of tank builders.

The fabrication process itself depends on the kind of tank we are building.

Shop-built tanks and pressure vessels are built start-to-finish within our facilities. Storage tanks with dimensions over 25’ x 20’ are fabricated in subassemblies. These sections are cut, rolled, and finished in our shop and then assembled in the field by our trained professionals.

Thermal Protection For Gas Storage Tanks

If you are ordering a low-pressure LPG or LNG tank, then thermal protection is important in order to keep the gas cool and prevent it from raising the pressure of the tank.

Failing to properly insulate a storage tank could result in leaks, and if a crack or leak appears on an LPG tank, then this can lead to an explosion — causing massive economic damage and personnel casualties.

If you need an LPG or LNG storage tank, then the engineers at T BAILEY INC. will design your tank with the best possible thermal protection. Depending on the product to be stored in your tank, our thermal insulation can be constructed out of steel, aluminum, corrugated metal, or flat panel metal. T BAILEY INC. insulation is always optimized to prevent corrosion and water damage.

When necessary, we can also build heating coils into the tank which help bring the contents of the tank up to a temperature that enables it to be properly stored or transferred in or out. Steam is one of the methods used for heating product and can be run through the coils. We also use electric heaters as well.  This might be necessary for your tank if you are planning to store crude oil or a similar substance.

For disaster-proof fuel tank protection, ask us about our Fireguard® storage tanks.

Testing And Quality Control That You Can Count On

When it comes to our products, there is ZERO room for error. Which is why our fabrication process is overseen by an in-house QC division that assures our personnel get every single tank right, the first time, every time.

Our QC department tests the quality of our welds and puts every single tank through a rigorous series of non-destructive and other performance tests — hydrostatic testing, for example.

Hydrostatic testing is a method of testing a completed tank before oil or gas is put in. As the name suggests, this test requires that the tank be filled with water. Hydrostatic testing is primarily structural test leak proof test.

Depending on the kind of tank you need, our comprehensive testing and finishing may also include:

  • Visual inspection and step by step monitoring of all processes to ensure the best possible quality
  • Radiographic Testing (RT)
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)
  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
  • Heat treating and stress relieving
  • Hardness Testing
  • Impact Testing
  • Positive Material Identification (PMI)
  • Leak Testing
  • Soluble Salt Testing
  • Full blast and lining profile measuring
  • Dry film thickness testing
  • Adhesion Testing
  • Lining continuity (holiday) testing

Shipping Options For Your Gas Storage Tanks

Shipping is another area where T BAILEY INC. stands out as an industry-leader. Our prime location enables us to provide our clients with three shipping options. This gives your company the freedom to customize shipping to meet your needs.

Our three shipping options include:

  • Rail: our fabrication facility is located a short 7 miles from a rail spur, which gives us the ability to ship our tanks anywhere in the continental United States or Canada.
  • Truck: we have our own team of expert truck drivers who can deliver oil and gas tanks to local sites. When shipping farther distances, or when transporting oversized loads, we partner with trusted outside trucking companies.
  • Barge: we are located just 5 miles from the deep-water port at Anacortes. So if you are located in Hawaii or Alaska, or if your job site has shore access, then we are able to ship your tank to you over the water.
