Stainless Steel Tank Fabrication Services

Shop Fabricated Steel Storage Tanks

T BAILEY LLC fabricates custom stainless steel tanks for industrial and commercial storage from our facility in Anacortes, Washington. As a stainless steel tank fabricator with decades of heavy-industrial experience, we manage fabrication, surface preparation, coating, testing, and delivery in-house, so a single accountable team controls the tank from raw plate to shipment. Whether you need a stainless steel storage tank for corrosive chemical service or a sanitary vessel for potable water, we build to your specifications and applicable code.

We fabricate stainless steel tanks in single and double-walled configurations, in vertical and horizontal orientations, and across a wide range of capacities. These run from shop-built vessels delivered complete to field-erected tanks assembled on-site, and every unit is built to the code governing its service.

Why Specify a Stainless Steel Tank

Material selection drives the long-term cost and reliability of any storage tank. Stainless steel earns its premium in service conditions where corrosion, sanitation, or longevity governs the decision.

Corrosion resistance is the primary reason engineers specify stainless steel tanks. The chromium content forms a passive oxide layer that resists acids, chlorides, and aggressive process chemicals without relying on an applied lining. For chemical and process storage, that means fewer coating-related failure points over the life of the tank.

Sanitation is the second driver. Because stainless surfaces are non-porous and cleanable, stainless steel storage tanks are the default choice for potable water, food and beverage, and sanitary process applications where product purity cannot be compromised.

Longevity and lifecycle cost complete the case. A carbon steel tank depends on its lining and coating system to reach service life, and that system needs periodic inspection and recoating. Industrial stainless steel tanks often deliver a longer maintenance interval in the same environment, offsetting the higher up-front material cost. Where a lining or exterior coating is still specified, our experience across many industrial coatings and their applications lets us match the system to the stored product and the operating environment.

Our Stainless Steel Tank Fabrication Capabilities

T BAILEY LLC approaches stainless steel tank fabrication as a controlled, single-source process backed by heavy-plate equipment and in-house steel fabrication services. Our stainless tank fabrication capabilities support a range of project requirements:

  • Wall construction: Single and double-walled configurations for primary and secondary containment requirements.
  • Orientation: Vertical or horizontal, selected by footprint, capacity, and process needs.
  • Wall thickness: Approximately 3/16 inch to 2 inches, depending on capacity and design pressure.
  • Head geometry: Flanged and dished, flared, semi-elliptical, or hemispherical, with welded or bolted flange head assemblies.

Two controls specific to stainless work set our fabrication apart. We weld to AWS D1.6, the structural welding code for stainless steel, and we use Positive Material Identification (PMI) to verify that the delivered alloy matches the specification.

Tank size determines where the work happens. Stainless steel tanks up to roughly 100 feet long and 20 feet in diameter are built start to finish in our shop, then delivered complete. Larger tanks that exceed highway transport dimensions are fabricated and prepped in-house, then assembled on-site as field-erected tanks by our crews. Either path keeps fabrication, coating, and testing under a single quality program.

Applications and Industries

Stainless steel is not the right material for every tank, but it is the required material wherever corrosion or sanitation cannot be managed with carbon steel and a lining. We fabricate industrial stainless steel tanks for these applications:

  • Chemical and process storage: Acids, agrochemicals, and process chemicals where alloy corrosion resistance is matched to the stored substance.
  • Water and wastewater: Potable water, process water, and treatment service that demands a clean, cleanable interior surface.
  • Food and beverage and sanitary service: Storage where product purity and washdown durability are non-negotiable.
  • Marine and coastal: Environments where chloride exposure drives the move from coated carbon steel to stainless.

These sectors span oil and gas, water and wastewater, chemical processing, marine, and government work. For upright, high-volume storage where orientation is the governing decision rather than material, our vertical storage tanks page covers that configuration in detail. Matching the tank to its service condition is the starting point of every project we take on.

Certifications, Quality Control, and Testing

Regulated petroleum, water, chemical, and fuel applications demand a fabricator whose certifications are current and verifiable. As a stainless steel storage tank manufacturer serving those markets, T BAILEY LLC holds the following credentials:

  • ASME U-Stamp: Certification for the fabrication of pressure vessels under the ASME code.
  • ASME NBIC R-Stamp: Authorization for alteration and repair of ASME-stamped pressure vessels.
  • NB registration: All fabricated pressure vessels are registered with the National Board.
  • API 620, 650, and 12F: Certification for petroleum storage tanks.
  • UL 142, F921, and 2085: Listings for aboveground and protected tank construction.
  • SSPC QP3: Certified contractor status for shop-applied coatings.
  • AISC Certified Fabricator: Held with all three Sophisticated Paint Endorsements, a combination few regional fabricators maintain.

Our in-house quality group performs non-destructive examination throughout fabrication. Depending on the tank and its service, testing includes visual inspection, radiographic testing, ultrasonic testing, dye penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, Positive Material Identification, hardness testing, leak testing, and, for coated units, dry-film-thickness and holiday testing.

AWS Certified Welding Inspectors and NACE Level III Coatings Inspectors oversee the work, and that same discipline extends to enforcing the confined-space and welding workplace safety standards that govern tank fabrication. Every stainless steel tank clears this battery of checks before it ships.

Why T BAILEY LLC for Stainless Steel Tank Fabrication

We are more than a stainless steel tank fabricator. T BAILEY LLC is an integrated industrial partner whose in-house capabilities remove the coordination gaps that raise cost and risk on multi-vendor tank projects.

Self-performing fabrication, blasting, coating, testing, and delivery in one facility gives clients a single accountable team and one quality standard from plate to shipment. Our Anacortes facility offers over 120,000 square feet of production space, heavy plate-bending rolls, and high-capacity cranes that let us take on tanks and thicknesses many regional steel tank manufacturers cannot.

When a stainless tank calls for a lining or exterior system, our in-house coatings and metallizing capabilities keep surface prep and application on the same campus under our paint certifications.

Also, our proximity to the Port of Anacortes and regional rail supports the delivery of oversized components across the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and Hawaii.
