The Fabrication Process For Fireguard® Tanks
At T BAILEY, INC., we take pride in fabricating the best Fireguard® tanks in the Northwest. From design to fabrication and painting to shipment, we are your one-stop-shop solution for robust and long-lasting fuel tanks.
To give you an idea of the dedication the T BAILEY INC. team puts into our Fireguard® tanks, here is a brief walk-through of what goes on in the shop when you order a tank from us. For more information about our Fireguard fuel storage tanks, contact T BAILEY, INC. today.
Engineering And Design
You don’t need to worry about engineering or design when you order a tank from us. The only information we need from you is how large of a tank you need (how many gallons), and what orientation and shape of tank you want (vertical vs. horizontal, cylindrical vs. rectangular).
Armed with that information, our design team will do the necessary calculations and engineering and then design the tank for you.
Once you’ve approved our tank design, we’ll start the fabrication process.
Fabrication
We begin by fabricating the inner tank (also called the “primary tank”). This involves cutting the steel plate with CNC plasma machines, rolling the plate into cylinders, welding the longitudinal and circumferential seams, and attaching both heads to form the tank.
Next, we fabricate the outer tank (also called the “secondary tank”). This process is the same as for the inner tank, except that we only attach one head — keeping the tank open on one end.
All that’s left is to unite the two tanks into one, but first, we need to do some testing.
Leak Testing
First, we do a leak test on the primary tank to ensure that it is sealed and leak free.
Once the inner tank successfully completes testing, it’s time to merge the two tanks. This involves sliding the primary tank inside the outer tank and then welding on the outer tank’s final head — completely encasing the primary tank within the outer tank.
Next, we do a leak test on the outer tank to ensure that there are no leaks. Doing a leak test requires that we repressurize the primary tank so that it doesn’t collapse under the pressure filling the interstitial space.
Coating
After both tanks successfully complete our testing processes, we move them off the production line and transfer them to our in-house painting division. There they are blasted and painted according to your specifications.
Insulation Installation
In between the inner primary tank and the outer secondary tank is a 3-6 inch space that we fill with lightweight concrete..
This insulated concrete is 75% lighter than standard concrete and its extreme lightness means lower transportation and installation costs for you.
Depending on your tank size and weight we may need to fill the interstice once it’s delivered and installed on your project site.
Shipping
Depending on your project site we can economically ship your tank by truck or barge. When necessary, we send our insulation crew out to the job site and they will fill the space with the lightweight concrete.
Inspection
After the tank is complete it is inspected by STI or UL. Once it passes all required inspections we are finally able to stick the official Fireguard® and UL labels on your tank.
