Fireguard Fuel Storage Tanks

At T BAILEY, INC., we combine Fireguard’s ® state-of-the-art engineering with our own industry-leading fabrication systems to create robust fuel tanks that will last for years with little-to-no-maintenance.

Fireguard ® tanks are UL2085 cutting-edge steel fuel storage tanks whose double steel walls and 3-6 inch layer of insulation make them virtually indestructible. They’re tested and certified by both Underwriters Laboratory UL2085 and Steel Tank Institute of America (STI) and can resist fire, ballistics, and vehicle collisions.

If you are looking for a robust fuel storage tank with great longevity and an economical price, then Fireguard tanks could be the perfect fit for you.

Required Fireguard Specifications

In order for a fuel tank to qualify as an official Fireguard® tank, a number of critical requirements must be met.

Fireguard® Design Specifications

These are some of the design features that elevate Fireguard® tanks above traditional, concrete encased tanks:

  • Steel Fireguard® tanks are double-walled, with an interstice between the inner and outer tanks.
  • The interstice must be filled with a lightweight concrete insulation that allows primary tank leak detection.
  • Both the inner and outer tanks are equipped with emergency vents.

Testing And Listing Requirements

In order to preserve their reputation as the best fuel storage tanks available, Fireguard® tanks are subjected to a wide range of quality control and testing, which includes:

  • Testing by Underwriters Laboratories to verify accordance with UL Subject 2080 and UL-2085.
  • Inspection by STI to ensure accordance with Standard F941.

Listing requirements include:

  • UL Protected Secondary Containment Aboveground Tanks for Flammable Liquids.
  • UL Fire Resistant Secondary Containment Tanks for Flammable Liquids.

Codes And Standards

Fireguard® tanks are the only aboveground fuel storage tanks able to meet all of the following standards and codes:

  • UL 2085 Listed “Protected” tank.
  • State of California Air Resources Board.
  • UL 2244 Aboveground Flammable Liquid Tank System.
  • Steel Tank Institute (STI) Standard F941 for Thermally Insulated Aboveground Storage Tanks.
  • ULC S655 Listed “Protected” tank.
  • Building Officials and Code Administrators (BOCA) National Fire Prevention Code.
  • Uniform Fire Code 2000 Article 79 and Article 79-7.
  • National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 30 & 30A.
  • International Fire Code (IFC) 2000 – Chapter 34.
  • Both the Inner and Outer steel tanks are built to UL/ULC standard.
  • Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI) Standard Fire Prevention Code.
  • Ballistics protection per UFC Article 79, and per UL-2085.
  • Vehicle impact protection per UFC Article 79, and per UL-2085.

The Fabrication Process For Fireguard® Tanks

At T BAILEY, INC., we take pride in fabricating the best Fireguard® tanks in the Northwest. From design to fabrication and painting to shipment, we are your one-stop-shop solution for robust and long-lasting fuel tanks.

To give you an idea of the dedication the T BAILEY INC. team puts into our Fireguard® tanks, here is a brief walk-through of what goes on in the shop when you order a tank from us. For more information about our Fireguard fuel storage tanks, contact T BAILEY, INC. today.

Engineering And Design

You don’t need to worry about engineering or design when you order a tank from us. The only information we need from you is how large of a tank you need (how many gallons), and what orientation and shape of tank you want (vertical vs. horizontal, cylindrical vs. rectangular).

Armed with that information, our design team will do the necessary calculations and engineering and then design the tank for you.

Once you’ve approved our tank design, we’ll start the fabrication process.

Fabrication

We begin by fabricating the inner tank (also called the “primary tank”). This involves cutting the steel plate with CNC plasma machines, rolling the plate into cylinders, welding the longitudinal and circumferential seams, and attaching both heads to form the tank.

Next, we fabricate the outer tank (also called the “secondary tank”). This process is the same as for the inner tank, except that we only attach one head — keeping the tank open on one end.

All that’s left is to unite the two tanks into one, but first, we need to do some testing.

Leak Testing

First, we do a leak test on the primary tank to ensure that it is sealed and leak free.

Once the inner tank successfully completes testing, it’s time to merge the two tanks. This involves sliding the primary tank inside the outer tank and then welding on the outer tank’s final head — completely encasing the primary tank within the outer tank.

Next, we do a leak test on the outer tank to ensure that there are no leaks. Doing a leak test requires that we repressurize the primary tank so that it doesn’t collapse under the pressure filling the interstitial space.

Coating

After both tanks successfully complete our testing processes, we move them off the production line and transfer them to our in-house painting division. There they are blasted and painted according to your specifications.

Insulation Installation

In between the inner primary tank and the outer secondary tank is a 3-6 inch space that we fill with lightweight concrete..

This insulated concrete is 75% lighter than standard concrete and its extreme lightness means lower transportation and installation costs for you.

Depending on your tank size and weight we may need to fill the interstice once it’s delivered and installed on your project site.

Shipping

Depending on your project site we can economically ship your tank by truck or barge.   When necessary, we send our insulation crew out to the job site and they will fill the space with the lightweight concrete.

Inspection

After the tank is complete it is inspected by STI or UL. Once it passes all required inspections we are finally able to stick the official Fireguard® and UL labels on your tank.
