All manufacturing industries have codes of quality, including steel. With regards to testing and quality control, T BAILEY, INC. is completely committed to providing the highest levels of safety and quality. Every employee is carefully trained by our long-serving and professional team of experts. We adhere to all the legal codes, standards, and certifications relevant to each industry we serve.
Our Quality Control
At T BAILEY, INC. we have policies ensuring all products are the best quality possible. These internal policies also guarantee only highly trained personnel are assigned to each project. Our product quality control has gained T BAILEY, INC. over thirty years’ worth of satisfied customers. Contract requirements are conscientiously fulfilled and any customer concerns are addressed right away.
T BAILEY, INC. utilizes a Quality Management System (QMS) to clearly document all our quality and customer-focused policies. A QMS guarantees that the same methods, skills, and standards are applied to every project. This system is the structure by which we control our production and deliver exceptional results.
Standards We Comply With
For each industry we partner with there are varying regulations. These standards account for the usage and maintenance of all manufactured products to ensure the operational safety and health of all, as well as environmental protection and sustainability. Standards are reviewed and updated regularly, and T BAILEY, INC.’s QMS reflects these changes.
American Petroleum Institute (API) Standards
The American Petroleum Institute’s (API) standards focus on products storing oil. They regulate every step of both shop-built and field-erected steel tank construction, from design to installation.
T BAILEY adheres to:
- API 510: Pressure Vessel Inspector
- API 570: Piping Inspector Examination
- API 650: Welded Steel Tanks for Oil Storage
- API 620: Design and Construction of Large, Welded, Low-Pressure Storage Tanks
- API 651: Cathodic Protection of Aboveground Petroleum Storage Tanks
- API 653: Tank Inspection, Repair, Alteration, and Reconstruction
T BAILEY, INC. uses the standards as a starting point, pushing its internal standards even higher. For instance we can add an extra interior lining to each tank; this lining protects against corrosion from water present in the oil. The bottom and sides of the tank will be covered with this protective lining, enhancing the longevity of the tank and maximizing cost effectiveness.
Steel Tank Institute (STI) Standards
The Steel Tank Institute has standards aiming to protect the environment from potential damage. Steel tanks often contain hazardous materials and therefore must be checked and maintained often. As T BAILEY, INC. manufactures a large number of steel tanks, we prioritize quality standards such as the STI’s F921 regarding double-wall aboveground storage tanks.
Generally, the frequency and type of test depends on the size, design, material, storage temperature, and configuration of the tank. For example, the STI requires internal inspections for tanks over 30,000 gallons or a leak test for those less than 30,000 gallons. Additionally, STI standards make ultrasonic testing (UT) mandatory. Ultrasonic testing uses magnets to identify potential corrosion or leakage.
UL Standards
UL 142 is an American National Standard regarding tanks that store combustible or flammable liquids in any capacity. UL 142 requires quality testing and control for leakage, hydrostatic load and strength, buoyancy, etc. It is primarily concerned with testing for sound structure. T BAILEY, INC. improves upon these structural requirements in an important way: joints. At T BAILEY, INC., our joints are not just single-welded一 as the specifications require一 but double-welded.
T BAILEY, INC. also adheres to UL 2085. Tanks following this standard have two walls with the space in between filled with concrete. This extra support increases safety, making these tanks popular with the military.
American Welding Society (AWS) Standards
The American Welding Society (AWS) outlines necessary standards for welders as well as welding practices, covering erection, fabrication, and regular inspection. The AWS’s 350 standards set regulations for different types of metal, prominently including steel.
T BAILEY, INC. follows the AWS D1.1 (Structural Welding Code – Steel) which contains the requirements for fabricating and erecting welded steel structures. We also adhere to AWS D1.6 Structural Welding Code, which specifically concerns stainless steel structural welding.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Standards
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has established the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) which stipulates mandatory requirements, specific prohibitions, and nonmandatory guidance for construction activities, inservice inspection, and testing activities. T BAILEY, INC. closely follows ASME’s Section VIII, Division 1; these stipulations pertain to the certification, testing, fabrication, and design of pressure vessels. Pressure vessels are containers for the containment of pressure, either internal or external. T BAILEY, INC. is also certified by the National Board to manufacture, repair, and inspect pressure equipment.
In addition, T BAILEY, INC. strictly adheres to ASME Section IX, which contains the requirements for the qualification of welding procedures and welders under the rules of the BPVC, codes for pressure piping and other codes and standards.
American Water Works Association (AWWA) Standards
As the name may suggest, AWWA standards regulate fabrication for tanks that store water. The D100 standards guarantee high quality for welded steel water tanks, from design through construction by having stringent rules regarding materials, inspections, testing, etc.
Besides AWWA D100, T BAILEY, INC. also implements other AWWA standards like C200 and C206. Both of these standards denote rules for steel water pipe manufacturing.
Coating Services and Certifications
Since T BAILEY, INC. has an on-site coating and painting facility, we also maintain updated certifications for these services. The SSPC QP3 outlines a company’s ability to provide surface preparation and coating for steel products inside a shop.
NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) has given members of the T BAILEY, INC. team Level III approval. Inspectors holding a Level III certification are considered advanced and has expert knowledge of coating, surface preparation, environmental conditions, safety, etc.
Our Qualified Personnel
Inspecting products and upholding industry standards is only performed by qualified personnel. Some businesses may choose to hire a third-party inspector, but T BAILEY, INC. has in-house inspectors and testing team able to guarantee high quality, safety, and integrity for all of our products and procedures. Each inspector is certified within the specific industry in which they hold certification.
